“Don’t force your children into your ways, for they were created for a time different from your own.”
Plato
Words as true now as they were over two millennia ago. Such a simple precept, yet so difficult to remember that our children did not get the same experience as we had in our youth, nor did we get the opportunity to discover life as they did. We came into their time already jaded with a history they will only hear or read about. Can you imagine yourself coming into this world within this century and how differently you would have been shaped if you had been quarantined in your adolescent years?
Furthermore, we do want our children to improve upon the world, not keep the status quo. Right? We cannot expect change if we cannot accept that the past was not as ideal as we romanticize it to have been.
